Yes Prime Minister - Nuclear Deterrent

One of my all time favourite comedy shows is the British Series and political satire, Yes Minister and Yes, Prime Minister. As my previous post mentioned, I'm tired of politics and ready for the summer. That said, I'm always open for some satire, especially the political one. I've 'dedicated' previous posts to various bloggers (songs, books etc). This one goes to one of my favourite political analysts and pundit, Jeff Huber from Pen and Sword. Jeff, enjoy and 'ya'll' have a good weekend. It's the last one before my mother goes back to the Netherlands after her 2 month visit. Hopefully this time she won't have anything to grumble about the US customs!

Battle Fatigue

from Independents and Democrats United Against Hillary Clinton in 2008

Most likely, since I have been ferring kids around to two different schools, I'm completely ready for the summer. Politically, I'm very much ready for the summer as well. Hillary and her illogical supporters (because at some point, if you have half a brain, and at least some morals and values to boot you oughtn't support her anymore at this point in time) are working on empty now, scrambling for any wording that fits the mood du jour. And with all the plenty of intelligent explanations around, I don't have to regurgitate as to the hows and whys! (plus, did I mention fatigue??)
So it's good to know that, even though all of Obama's blogging supporters are alert and at the ready, that Obama and his campaign are looking for a VP. And no doubt the McCain campaign are at the ready to attack Obama with future swiftboat tactics and other dirty tricks, previously only attributed to the GOP.
So just think, when you do get tired of Hillary's 'same old same old' talking out of her dr. Jekyll and Mrs Hyde head, just think, that at least Obama is keeping his eyes on the price. Perhaps us Obamalamalekkadingdongs ought to as well. And I am saying that lovingly! Enjoy the summer and don't fret over what you can't control. Leave that energy zapping to the Hillarites.

Criminal Solicitation -Call in/email the DNC

She apparently doesn't know what the meaning of 'assassination' is. How is that for all in the family? Bill Clinton fails to understand 'sex' and Hillary fails to understand 'assassination'. As in, the history of Presidential assassinations in this country. As in, the reason why elected public officials such as Presidents still need Secret Service agents after they are out in office until they actually do expire for good. There is always the possibility of a nut job to whack off a President after he's been out of office.

Mash from Docstrangelove has written about it intelligently as to why there is or should be no more passes for Hillary to make her comments. As he pointed out; Hillary Clinton has a habit of planting suggestions into the political landscape. In fact, he like I, were not anti-Hillary or a 'Hillary Hater' as some of supporters would like to dismiss the likes of him and I. In fact, way before this race, I had thought highly of Hillary. But then came the race-baiting and the dirty advertising.

Now.. now Hillary has passed that fine line that as a parent, I find difficult to explain. She has in essence committed criminal solicitation;

A person is guilty of solicitation to commit a crime if, with the purpose of promoting or facilitating its commission, he commands, encourages or requests another person to engage in specific conduct which would constitute such crime or an attempt to commit such crime or which would establish his complicity in its commission or attempted commission. It is immaterial that the actor fails to communicate with the person he solicits to commit a crime if his conduct was designed to effect such a communication.

The crime of criminal solicitation is the actual soliciting, or seeking to engage another to commit a crime, not the subsequent commission of a crime. Therefore, a defendant can be convicted of soliciting, even though the person refuses and the solicited crime is never perpetrated, as long as the intent that that crime be committed is present.
(bold added by yours truly)

Did she grow up in this country or not? I've been here since 1997 and have witnessed, no, HEARD people make some VERY derogatory and outright criminally dismissive comments about 'them niggers'. After I left Saudi Arabia where I lived for 2 1/2 years,(where some American expats would call them 'sand niggers') I thought, well, after I endured and survived living here, I can live ANYwhere. Then I found myself in the Deep South. Hallelujah. It boggles your mind but this is after all the US of A. You still have fundamentalists who believe in the creation theory science be damned. You still have people who are in the KKK and believe that anything mulato is a miscegenation. Second hand citizens? Not even! There are people who, for whatever psychological reason, hate blacks. Pure and simple. Now this is not about blacks vs whites. Unfortunately, to the dismay of many African American Democratic voters, Hillary has made it such. And most unfortunately, by extension of her 'not really a gaffe', shivers must have gone down the black community.

The fine line I referred to earlier? Apparently there was none seen here by her or her many supporters. Well, let me tell you something. There are certain things one knows as an adult, through years of being raised (hopefully) with even the most basic morals and values, that you know you don't do, or don't say. Even my mother visiting from the Netherlands with her pigeon English said after hearing about this, isn't this enticement? How can you say such a thing and expect to come out smelling like roses?

So now, since no one has demanded her to drop out of the race, it is time to demand the DNC to speak up and call Hillary accountable for the final straw in a series of over the top divisive tactics that after all, undermined their own Party.
Her comment was NOT ok, nor was her non apology. RFK jr. isn't going to do the people's job to demand her immediate drop-out. It's politics, us knows us.

Call, or email or mail Speaker Nancy Pelosi and demand public denouncement and call for withdrawal from the race;

Office of the Speaker
H-232, US Capitol
Washington, DC 20515
(202) 225-0100

And don't forget Senator Harry Reid;

528 Hart Senate Office Bldg
Washington, DC 20510
Phone: 202-224-3542
Fax: 202-224-7327
Toll Free for Nevadans:
1-866-SEN-REID (736-7343)

And for all those who would dismiss me as a Hillary Hater; you are obviously identifying more with feeling victimized, than as taking responsibility for someone's (or your own) actions. Get therapy. If you don't recognize that fine line when there is one, you haven't been raised right.

Battle Hymn of the Republic; Call to the DNC May 27th!!

I am far from patriotic. I know the difference between loving your country, and going apeship over everyone who doesn't see your country through rose-coloured glasses. In Holland we have plenty of tainted history to know that there is no such thing as utopia. But, inspiring leaders who love their country enough to stand up for their values at a time when you can be dismissed as non patriotic always will be remembered more so than all the supposed patriots who beat their chests in praise. Bobby Kennedy was such a man that he and his words have not been forgotten.

In fact, I remember listening to this song as a little girl in the Netherlands, not realizing at the time that the song eulogized Bobby Kennedy at his funeral. The rendition by Andy Williams is beautiful and it was a song worthy of the man who inspired my friend Mash. Mash has spoken of Bobby Kennedy before and what his words meant to him. Of course, when Hillary made the ultimate unacceptable reference to Bobby Kennedy's assassination discussing her fight for the Democratic nomination against Obama, it should have been the turning point for the MSM to stop apologizing for her and catering towards her. This time, there will be a blogger 'revolution' calling the Democratic Party's leadership and Nancy Pelosi to publicly denounce her, and ask her officially, to drop out of the race.

Call the DNC on Tuesday, May 27th, and let Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid know that they need to step up to the plate and denounce Hillary.

Contact the DNC in protest!

I'm no 'moveon.org' but this morning I wrote/emailed the DNC:

In the light of Hillary Clinton's last and most dangerous remark, I urge the DNC to speak up against this. Her non apology was equally atrocious and Obama AND the Kennedy's deserve a full apology. How much more is the party going to allow itself to be destroyed by a narcisstic candidate? Shame on her and shame on the party!
!

Ok, I haven't eaten breakfast yet nor have I finished my (first) coffee so eloquent I am/was not. I hope you'll do your part and let's mushroom this into pressuring the DNC into speaking up. Enigma and Betmo and Mash are better wordssmithsies than me..go for it guys, give it to them!

Happy Birthday Didi..

Well, it's not really Happy Birthday 'DIDIii..' but happy birthday Rebecca. My youngest turned 5 at the beginning of this week and one of her presents was a cd of Backyardigan music. Now to those sans young kids, you're drawing a blank and are probably getting ready to click your way to the next interesting thing..BUT.. if you have heard parents having (had) to endure Barney or the Teletubbies, you probably envision something horrible and waaay too childlike for any adult to enjoy.
Wrong!
If there is one kid show that even adults can enjoy, it actually is the Backyardigans. Created by Janice Burgess the Backyardigans is an animated series that feature 5 preschool 'kids' (different animals) who meet up in their communal backyards (you know, where people don't have fences) and make up a story and their backyard turns into one of those environments they imagine (castle, the Canadian Yukon etc). As a grown up you can appreciate and understand a child's view of how they play act and on top of that, it's done in an intelligent AND funny way.

One of their defining characteristics is their use of music. Every episode uses a musical genre; spaghetti western, reggea, flamenco, big band, zydeco etc. My daughter also got another Backyardigan dvd that featured the music genre 'rai'. When I told my son (who's 10 and also likes a lot of the music) that it sounded arabic, I had to look it up and voila, it was. Well, to be exact, this is RAI:

Raï (Arabic: رأي) is a form of folk music, originated in Oran, Algeria from Bedouin shepherds, mixed with Spanish, French, African and Arabic musical forms, which dates back to the 1930s and has been primarily evolved by women in the culture. The word raï is Arabic for “opinion.”

Singers of raï are called cheb (young) as opposed to sheikh (old) the name given to Chaabi music singers; the tradition arose in cities like Oran and elsewhere in Tlemcen, primarily among the poor. The word raï means literally opinion but is colloquially used as an interjection along the lines of oh, yeah! Traditionally sung by men, at the turn of the 20th century, female singers became common. Rai musicians, as early as the 1930's, were singing about social issues which affected their arab colonies. They ranged from disease to the police of the colonies. [1] Much like today's rap stars and hip-hop artists they sung about the current issues around them which was indeed revoluationary for their time.[2] It's popularity not only taken the traditional sounds of the Middle East and "updated" it, but pop rai' reputation as a racy type of music has also influenced a fusion between rai and rock and several other "up and coming" styles

So that reminded me of a very popular song in the early 90s which I found on Youtube (gotta love it) so here's my offering of 'rai' to you for the weekend;

Khaled - Didi

Cyclone a big boon for military junta

don't let this smily face fool you, General Than Shwe

More than one million homeless in Myanmar were battling to stave off disease and hunger Thursday, with the military government still limiting foreign assistance six days after a massive cyclone.
With death toll estimates near 100,000 and the clock ticking for those who survived, Myanmar's junta -- long suspicious of the outside world -- came under new pressure to fully open up to help from abroad.

Aid was only trickling in despite warnings that specialists were needed to deliver food and water through disaster zones strewn with rotting bodies, and it was unclear if the regime was giving visas to foreign aid staff.

The United States, one of the military junta 's most vocal critics, announced it was not sending an aid flight after earlier saying it was, adding to the sense of confusion and frustration over the international relief effort
.

There is another way of looking at this continued denial of permission to give aid in Myanmar. How much easier is it to rule a dictatorship when you have less people to worry about? Is this payback time for the protests?

If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared. Niccolo Machiavelli

Swish and swallow...

no..I'm talking about something else disgusting...

This morning, after my son's send off on his first camp out trip (I shouldn't remind myself I miss him already mouthy little twerp that he can be).. I went out for breakfast with my mom. Then, we came home and decided to 'quickly' clean the bathrooms before going out again.
Well, something funky/hinky happened. I had cleaned the tub with the clorox (with bleach) and thought I had rinsed it well enough to spray my vinegar on it to do a final wipe down and shining up the faucet. Well, I got hit by a very vinegary waft and in a reflex drew back. Geesh..I still got a sore throat afterwards which I endured for most of the day but it just kept bugging me. Then I got freaked out enough to call the doctor's office and the long and short of it is; I got prescribed this mixture (siladryl, maalox, licodaine) which is to numb the pain and coat the mucus membranes in my throat. (there where you can't gargle or 'hold' it)..
Swish and freakin' swallow! It's disgusting and the flavour is making me feel a bit nauseated.
The pharmacist said that if I swished it for a longer time in smaller doses, it would most likely have a better effect. Consequently, I 'swish and swish and swish and numb my mouth and yak..swallow.
I'm obviously still a bit freaked out, good grief. But.. at the doctor's they said that it 'only' looked very irritated and it might've burned the mucus membranes a bit in the back. When I asked how long it could take before getting better she said, oh.. 3 to 5 days!

So TUA.. know anyone who's good for healing prayer??!! (g)

Lewis Black..from me.. to you!

My friends,....enjoy!
