Voting started!

Trail of Lights 5K, Austin Texas

Well, next week is the Trail of Lights 5K and the voting has started! If you are inclined to vote for yours truly, by all means! Here is the link to the Austin Chronicle Club Chronicle Challenge. Apparently, it's one vote per email so if you have more than one email and you have nothing better to do..go for it!

I managed to jog/walk 2 miles in 29 minutes yesterday. Of course the full 5K would be 3.1 miles but still! I used to be able to walk 5K in about 50 minutes to an hour so regardless...it'll be an improvement to my time.

I know I need to update you guys but right now, I'm 'it' in the mom/dad tag team.

Please vote, even though I'm not gungho on winning. If anyone else strikes you as vote-worthy, by all means. I'm going to use the Chronicle blog platform (which we will not have for much longer) for recruiting assistance in setting up support for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
To be continued...

You got my vote!
I didn't really dig into the idea of Trail of Lights, but it seems that you're racing for a good cause.
One tip for you: The first 3-4 minutes are anaerobic effort, and the rest of race is aerobic effort. If you run too fast in the first minutes, you won't have enough energy for the rest of the race. Try running more slowly than you feel at the beginning, and then, after 3-4 minutes, you can pick up more speed. Using this simple tactic, I believe that you'll be able to score beter.
Good luck!

Yohay, our trainer told us to just keep a steady pace and not to take off too fast.No worries on that for me LOL. As for the 'cause'..there is no good cause attached to this particular race. This town is crazy about races so any 'excuse' will do. The Trail of Lights is a trail with all kinds of lit up displays relating to Christmas. I'll be happy if I can run part of it, which is more than I have ever done so.. easy does it although the terrain is a bit hilly at areas so I'll definitely try to walk those parts and run down hill so to speak! lol

Well, if you have a professional trainer, I'd stick to his advice...
Anyway, good luck!

Ha, thanks guys! This morning, it was 38F outside and on my way back from bringing my oldest to school, I saw dedication I tell you. I have not worked out as diligently as I should have and I see people all around who are out running by themselves, in a pair.. Today I will be going to visit one of my team mates (Christine) to work on a communal post on the chronicle blog to solicit support, not for 'us' , but for setting this activity of support up for veterans with ptsd. That plus my two grantwriting classes are taking up a lot of my time..hopefully we'll be able to at least walk around her neighbourhood or so..
thanks for your support 'ya'll'. I'll bring my digital camera with me for the race plus apparently, someone from the Austin American Statesman is going to show up and do a story on us Saturday morning, the day of the race.
