Things that caught my eye...

For more northern lights pictures, see Hicker Photo

but have no time to research and post on..

so short blurbs will have to do;

The Revenge of Gaia.. read this review, challenging greens to rethink;

Eric Margolis' Toronto Sun article on the forgotten genocide in the Ukraine;

A two year old article on David Kuo who lost faith in the faith based and community services of the White House and saw it for what it was, a ploy to get religious people on board to vote for Bush..surprise surprise..;

Mystery of the Northern Lights explained..

Hey Ingrid - you're blog continues to be inspiring and interesting!

We can see the Northern Lights well where I live. I had a female band staying here last year (the singer is a friend). A woman from Australia and one from the US had never seen the Northern Lights... or drank single malt whisky.

I led them to my patio and they experienced both in the same night!

I love the lights and appreciate understanding (a little) how it works.

wildnis..I linked to Rolf Hicker's site as I usually do (credit where credit's due)..the other pictures on his site were incredible! To think that that is something for real in the sky and not a doctored picture.. I have not had the pleasure to every seeing one myself.. thanks for stopping by!

Gary...long time no see my friend! You worked like crazy I saw and you are enjoying an apparent respite at your beautiful abode.. thanks for the kind words.. I feel I am still all over the place but then, so many different things interest me. When you raise kids, you really are not that able to keep a good blog..speaking for myself of course! How lucky that those women got to experience two great things in one night (I have neither)! So I guess if I ever get to do my travel around..I'll have to make sure I catch you at home during one of those Northern Lights 'times'..

good to see you again Gary,

hugs

WOW, those northern lights pics are wonderful! When I lived in Spokane WA, we would sometimes see the tail-end of them dancing around. They were just weird enough to cause a commotion. My dad always talks about them from time he spent in Alaska after WWII. A sci-fi book I'm reading now has a theory about increasing aurora borealis acitivity being a sign that the earth's magnetic poles are about to flip (we are overdue for a flipping).

hoo, talk about spooky..I wonder what kind of 'flippping' you're talking about. I'm all open for 'Gaias revenge' but did not know it could include a flipping of sorts! Can you imagine ages past when people must have seen it? What kinds of stories the Haida Indians must have about that I wonder..

Hello dear Ingrid,
It's late and I can't stay long but I wanted to tell you I like the new look of your blog. Bell and whistles are okay but it's heart and spirit that count and you have that by the bucket.

So far as pole reversal is concerned I plucked this from wiki:

Based upon the study of lava flows of basalt throughout the world, it has been proposed that the Earth's magnetic field reverses at intervals, ranging from tens of thousands to many millions of years, with an average interval of approximately 250,000 years. The last such event, called the Brunhes-Matuyama reversal, is theorized to have occurred some 780,000 years ago.

There looks to be a lot of high weirdness stuff about 2012 if you google the term. I think we've got enough man made problems to concern ourselves with - never mind walking around with signs about the sky falling.

Best wishes :-)

Susan! Thanks for the research!! I have become quite curious re. the poles and magnetism and reversals of the like..phoo..something's about to happen in 2012 eh?? Well, it's like with most things that really could use our attention (like the state of affairs with the declining liberties, what the hey, the lack thereof) but sometimes the immediate needs just take center stage..still, I'll be sure to do some reading up on that, it sounds kinda interesting..I'll remember not to worry about the sky falling etc..with that experiment they're doing this weekend in Switzerland..that funky machine (it's late, forgot what it's called).. if we don't get sucked into a black hole than I'm good..one more day to live and be thankful for..

thanks for the compliments too btw...nice feedback is always appreciated!! [g]

I don't know about 2012; many scientists believe we are at the beginning of a magnetic flip right now. Some flips take 1,000 yrs to complete, others amazingly fast (like less than a year)! You can google lots of info about earth's magnetic pole reversals. Yes we are overdue, but that is just a statistical avg. PBS is a good place to start for overall info:

DK..the things you learn..I never even heard off these things..I wonder if my son (10yr) has; he had a great teacher last year who was very interesting and focussed on science a great deal. At any rate, worthwhile to look into for me AND him, thanks for the info and link!
