Humpday post

Am going through a bit of an anxious episode but am working on it while life goes on; taking kids to school, watching them play outside, attending a class information evening at my son's school..you know..same old same old..
One of the things he will be doing this school year is get classical guitar lessons. He's not that excited about it but apparently the Austin Classical Guitar society has regular performances on Sunday so we'll take him to wet his appetite. His teacher posts the weekly lesson on Youtube and this is one of his posts (but this is not him!)

flashback city for 'us' of a certain age; Bohemian Rhapsody by Edgar Cruz..bravo Edgar!!

Update;

perhaps this song is more appropriate for this week, ha! (no wonder I always liked this song when I was a little girl..haHA!)

ok ok.. for those who think that's too 'much'..how about this one? It's kinda a swinging version of 'what good is it all'.. well, kinda..haHA! What? Pfff..it's been taken off Youtube due to terms of use violation..cha.. those Squirel Nut Zippers..sigh. (alas, no "In the Afterlife"..)

That's pretty good! It's funny, you find yourself singing the words. You just relax and take it easy and remember "it really doesn't matter"

Thanks Jim. Isn't it though? I loooved that song growing up, that and 'somebody to love'. Thanks for the suggestions..I'm trying to self talk (buckle up, chin up, don't be an idiot..you know that kinda thing) but it'll be combo-multi-track approach that gets this anxiety under control. I'm even going to get my whole endocrine system checked out seeing that I only have ONE adrenal gland (had an operation 15yrs ago)..so..I'm on it baby!
(gotta go back browsing online, haven't visited you and others not for quite a while-sorry :( )

Amen Jim. I got some relaxing exercises from my counselor and my primary doc is supportive with the anxiety meds. (I only take when needed and he knows I hate to take meds, he thinks I'm obsessing too much about whether I should take meds or not and he's actually right, but at least I'm not a mindless pill popper!)"hubby" appreciated the acknowledgement btw.[g]
Maria..I'd love to walk but don't think I could with the kids being around. I'll be just sitting outside, while the weather is still lovely and let the kids get let them play hard and get tired! Perhaps you can join us if you have the time..[s]

You do whatever necessary to be a viable member of your family unit! Like you I do not like pills and lucky enough to not have to take them. Whatever it takes though!
I am an every waking minute practitioner of relaxation techniques, self discipline, and control. That is just me I was like this as a little kid for some reason!

I love it! I have to laugh! A little while back when things were getting a bit much I posted that song "Don't worry be Happy" to try and cheer people up Brother commented and said I think you might need this song and it was this. I do really like it and will listen to it again. Take care!

Your son will be very appreciative later in life. I've discovered that classical guitarists seem to be able to play anything. Not so of the guys - like me - who were self taught. I still wish I had taken classical guitar lessons when I was younger.

I would've loved classical guitar lessons. Tell your son he is lucky. I got accordian lessons! Later on, I messed around w/guitar & it wasn't pretty. Apparently, I can only think of music in terms of keyboards. Early training is formative!

Have you ever tried St John's Wort (very mild supplement, available at your health food store) for anxiety? I got a big batch for my brother & it did seem to help him for awhile. But he is bipolar & nothing helps him for long. Also valerian is another mild supplement if you have trouble sleeping. I hate to resort to big pharma if there are alternatives.

Jeez, Dr. Demento! I haven't thought about that song in a looong while.

Jim, I don't know why this song (hahahehe) always stuck in my head as a kid and it was in english even! So yeah, it does kind of 'speak' to one doesn't it?? [s]
Robert and DK, I'll be sure to show him your comments. I/we have a classical guitar as well and I was going to practice this weekend using the lesson that was posted on Youtube. He already played 'rain rain go away' and however simple it may seem (using only one string I believe), it is a good 'picking' exercise..
Robert, last night James and I went out and I was too pooped to write but I will still have to use that post..no worries.

anyhow..I'll get back in my posting groove AND visit 'ya'll' too of course,
hugs

So, guess who Googled "Ingrid, blogger, Austin, TX???" Jannie from this a.m. at our kid's school.

Yes, to both those songs, especially the first, ahh thememories. When I heard the start of the latter I immediately assumed it was Dylan's Rainy Day women #12 and 35, one I know very well.

Have you heard Rodrigo Y Gabriela, classical duo? Freaking amazing band. Was blown away the first time I heard them on KGSR, parked my car at a Walgreen's parking lot and was compleed to sit and listen to the whole song before going in for my hair dye and a snickers bar.

Have fun!

Gotta go now and spread the news how on Oct. 5th Biden will probably step down due to illness.

See you at school.

Hey there Ingrid...
I have not been making the rounds much this week...just trying to work and take care of things...and following the markets and IKE...I think alot of people stayed because they did not have money or resources to go elsewhere...I don't think they were trying to be defiant...I also think after Katrina people are always scared of leaving- because they know they will be homeless, starve and have no power when they go....there were not many hotel rooms available from what I read, that the Oil rig workers are staying in alot of the hotels - and I think the cost of gas and hotels is a huge deterrient...

to be honest I can understand having Nowhere to go....it happens....and no fuel or money for a hotel...

Also many of these folks had lived there for many many years....and survived storms- so I don't think it is that they got cocky- more like they think they can handle it...

Either way it is very sad...and that so many are still struggling...days later..and they will be in the weeks to come..

I have heard that 20-25,000 stayed in Galveston....I do wonder if we will ever know how many really are missing....NOLA numbers were never right either...

sigh...

BTW I had no idea what that comment above meant about Biden...he has had health problems in the past but is fine...( considering he almost died of an aneurysm- that was a pretty awful thing...and he takes his health seriously....)

I hope you are okay Ingrid...have not heard much from you...hope you are hanging in there...
