Austin Texas is home to some very smart, passionate, and politically active people. And some quite famous too.
Jim Hightower, Molly Ivins, and Alex Jones just to name a few. I live in a pretty interesting city, politically, environmentally, socially. The place to raise a family in a, generally very aware and politically active place.
Another 'thirdcoast activist' is Robert Jensen.

Don't forget about guitarist Eric Johnson, probably one of the best guitarists to play rock, heavy metal or jazz.
Robbie, you are so much more 'advanced' than me when it comes to music..there is a whole slew of musicians that the concert going people here know about that I don't!! Yes, no dates for my husband and I yet ... The only 'clueing' in that I do is knowing how famous the Broken Spoke is. We drive by everyday on the way to school..it's one of Austin's landmarks too. Does Eric Johnson live in Austin these days, d'ya know?

I believe he still calls Austin home. He's currently on tour, sometimes opening for Steve Miller.
