Comment on Cali's Prop 8

There were many protests around the country re. Cali's prop 8. I have in comment sections in people's blogs made mention of this non-profit organization, led by reverend Barry Lynn; Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Get yourself a blog button, spread this like wildfire and check out their site. They have local chapters in all states and if there is none in your city, there are directions in how to set it up.

During the Bush years, Barry Lynn, a former lawyer turned minister, has vigorously defended the separation of church and state either in taking churches to court, or debating Falwell or Robertson on tv. He surely can hold his own. So you want to do something about prop 8? Do something about the separation of Church and State. As this election showed, it's all about grassroots efforts so keep yourself mobilized.

Dobson; Get that Man off the Air!

OK, I know it is not going to happen but other than his own radio show, any other media outlet should not give this man and his views the time of day solely for having something to print or air. This is what Reverend Barry Lynn, from Americans United for Separation of Church and State has this to say about him:

“Dobson is an extremist who wants the government to impose his fundamentalist viewpoint. He simply cannot accept the fact that America is a diverse nation that welcomes people of all faiths and none. His tirade today is deplorable and probably the most insensitive of his career."

“It is ironic that Dobson is holding himself out as some sort of authority on constitutional law and theology,” Lynn continued. “He is not a theologian or an attorney, and his lack of knowledge about those fields really shows."

Barry Lynn is not only the executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, but an ordained minister who later on became an attorney. He's put the two at good use. His book Piety and Politics; The Right Wing Assault on Religious Freedom is a great read and actually alerted me to his organization.

A lot of people have gotten turned off of 'religion' since the Bush administration abused the separation of church and state edict. For those who see every American Christian expression of faith with weary and distrustful eyes, take heart. There are plenty of Christians who not only believe in the separation of church and state, but are watching carefully at the media and legal proceedings around this country, safeguarding people from the encroachment of fundamentalism.

Check out Americans United for the Separation of Church and State and see what they are doing to preserve EVERYone's freedom of religion. Not the enforcement of just one, very abhorrent, fundamental, ignorant form.
