Hunkering down..Big Chill in Texas

picture by Carla & Thomas Cooper-Hicks

brrrr..it's a balmy -1C (-5 with the windchill) or 30F (23 with the windchill factor). The kids were very excited to see the itty bit of snow coming down, mixed with freezing rain. Sorry guys, there's no making a snowman out of this! It's kinda nice and cozy though. My husband and I have been playing scrabble for the last two days and today, since schools and work got canceled, we're playing again. When it's cold and gray, it feels like 'Harry Potter' weather to me (translation, daydreams of Hogwarts and wanting to show of my talents of the dark arts come to mind) and perhaps we'll see an HP film later. Right now, daughter dearest is watching Finding Nemo.
I talked with a very old friend (as in, the one I've had the longest) from Canada last night and I related to her how they're using sand to make the roads more driveable.. of course, she, like me, said, they should use salt, sand doesn't help! But anyway, most people are off the roads and like I said, it's kinda cozy inside.
It's been a looong time since I had to bear the frigid weather up in Ottawa, CA and I don't think that after all these years living in the South, that my body could handle the very below freezing temperatures..and the windchills! Brrrrr...
I'm going back to finish lunch and play another game of scrabble.

Chill In Texas --As we swelter with over 40degrees centigrade here in Melbourne to day.

As we battle the heat, bush Fires, smoke and summers haze you scurry indoors after avoiding an itty bitty snow-flakes from a winter’s icy chill.
Best wishes

Granny, I have not paid attention to the weather in the rest of the country I'm afraid. With the kids home from school and playing lots of scrabble with James, and paying attention to school closures and road conditions, I've been literally a bit insolar this past week. Hope you guys will get out of that cold too, especially when you're used to better weather. Of course, if I still lived in Canada, I'd consider it 'warm'!
Lindsay, oh the days of 40C (or higher)..we'll get that pretty soon because it gets that yucky hot here and sometimes with humidity too, phoo! Hope mother nature will not burn too much of herself in Australia although sometimes, it's nature's way for renewal. I tried to comment on your site the other day btw and it did not make it for some reason. Like Mirvat mentioned, something was afoot with Blogger.
Mirvat, thank you dear! I have been most fascinated by your recent posts and wished I had time to revisit and re read but as you can tell, these past days did not lend themselves for 'me and computer time'. I can see how you're glad about the weather being 'normal'..here it can be warm when it is not supposed to be and that messes up with your vegetable gardening I tell you!
hugs to you all, stay warm or cool,
Ingrid

i don't imagine that you have much need for salt on a regular basis down there- probably why you all are using sand. :) happy belated birthday! hope your day was a special one.

Hyar is sum advice from a ninja....
1. Find a large animal,
2. Sneak up behind it in the Squinto-Farto style of crouching martial artsery,
3. Slay it with a chop to the neckbone.
4. Cut it open with yor survival knife (or a tuna can lid)
5. Pull out the entrails (save them, you may need a stew)
6. Crawl inside like Luke in "Return of the Jedi"
7. Huddle in thar till it gits cold agin
8. Return to (1)

A horse can hold a family of 5 if'n you dont mind gittin reel cozy-like
