I've bben to the demonstration in Tel Aviv, my city.
ReplyDeleteThere were more people than I had expected, though it was still small. Protesting against the war is still far from mainstream in Israel.
I am convinced, that as the war continues, larger protests will appear, and also the media will stop being pro-war. Criticism is heard, but the main tone is of support, unity, etc...

Yohay, thanks for letting me know. I will write a quick post tonight if I can and highlight your experience (with link of course) and hopefully some other cities' peace rally's. Take heart, I don't think people wanting to find a better way to get to peace (regardless on your political stance) are far outnumbered by those who only believe in fighting or who just plain don't care. Hope you'll stay safe!

Thanks Mash. I have been thinking what Zeb wrote in another post, unrelated to this war. He was writing about representative gov't and in essence, chiding the reader for letting themselves get divided and conquered on certain issues so that people fail to take control over their politicians (paraphrase). Likewise with an already very emotional and very long conflict throughout which more and more people from each side can claim legitimate grievances. It is like marriage counseling; healing needs to take place by acknowledging each other's pain and position, than, the past needs to be left where it is in order for the future of that marriage to grow..but the big thing is that the decisiont to commit to that marriage is key. But as always, easier to say when you're not in that marriage..
